Onions are in the Ground!

We’re very grateful for the two-week stretch without rain! It gave us the perfect window to prepare the onion field before planting. With onions, timing is everything! At a certain point, bulbing is triggered by the number of daylight hours, regardless of how much foliage the plants have developed. That’s why our goal was to get the onions in the ground in August, and we did it! 🕺 💃
Early sowing 🌱 = more leaves before bulbing --> bigger bulbs.
It was a great team effort. We planted 28,000 onion seedlings into the rolled faba bean area, topped it with extra mulch just in time before the rain.
An interesting fact 🌱🧅
Each healthy green leaf typically contributes to one ring in the onion.
