Our NZ spelt grain is 100% organically certified and so are we at Organic Flour Mills :) We use only organic certified NZ-grown spelt at Organic Flour Mills - yes - it's locally grown specially for us! The very best!!

NB: All grain contains weevil eggs. To prevent hatching, store at low temperatures and low humidity. Best stored in airtight container in fridge of freezer. To kill all eggs, larvae or weevils, freeze for 7 days.

So "what is spelt?" you ask ...

Spelt is an amazing grain! It’s actually an ancient grain that was relatively recently re-discovered and is a favourite because of its health benefits. Also known as dinkel, spelt is more nutritious than wheat. Spelt (Triticum spelta) has an outer inedible husk or hull that protects it from disease. This is removed after harvesting, before milling into a fine flour that is ideal for baking - making a delicious fine sandwich loaf of bread :) 

Why is spelt so good for me? Is it better than wheat?

Spelt is more nutritious than wheat, and although it contains as much gluten, it’s a different type of gluten that is more fragile and water soluble than wheat gluten, so spelt is easily digested and can often be tolerated by many who are sensitive to wheat. Try it and see!
