Unhulled millet is loved by budgies! But our hulled (often called "de-hulled") millet is great for the gluten intolerant and you too :)
While it's technically a seed, millet functions as a whole grain. Millet is gluten free and its nutritional profile is similar to that of our other cereal grains. Millet is an ancient grain, and the larger Foxtail millet we use at Organic Flour Mills is one of the oldest of all the millets. The hull is removed before millet can be milled or eaten. This is called either hulled millet, or de-hulled millet.
How will millet benefit my health?
Millet is rich in protein, providing more amino acids than most other cereals (apart from our quinoa and buckwheat, which are both complete proteins). Millet is also high in fibre and antioxidants. It provides plenty of essential minerals including phosphorus, magnesium and calcium.
Millet's many health benefits include helping to lower blood sugar and cholesterol levels. Because millet is gluten free it's an excellent choice for coeliacs, and those choosing to avoid gluten and YOU too!
How do I eat millet?
Millet is used in many ways, and is yummy for breakfast, soaked overnight, then drained and cooked like porridge before being whizzed up to make it really creamy. We pack our organic millet in our GF millroom to avoid any cross-contamination with gluten. Our millet is grown in China in a secluded valley and is organically certified.
