The Trial

Last week we planted leeks. Some of these 15,000 seedlings were planted in our trial area.
We recognise that vegetable farming is facing increasing challenges caused by climate change - long periods of drought with isolated rain or heavy rainfalls. Our trail area is documenting the benefits of mulch and cover crops for soil health and structure, crop health and the prevention of erosion.
In the photo you can see us taking soil samples. This project will be continued in the new year as we partner with Massey University.
